CHAIN

Although many people think of agriculture as low tech and innovation field, those involved in agricultural education or industry know that it’s actually quite the opposite – year on year new solutions and efforts are being made towards bridging the gap between the real life and classroom in agricultural field that change the life of students, farmers and entrepreneurs across the world. More and more farmers are turning to data science to make informed decisions using precision technologies. However, this kind of initiatives are much less (if any) observed in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) that severely lags behind in their development despite the fact that most people are engaged in small farming as primary economic activity.

Strengthening Agri-Food Value Chains in Nigeria 🇳🇬 | CHAIN National Conference
The Faculty of Agriculture at Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), in collaboration with the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA), successfully co-hosted a two-day National Conference on Agri-Food Value Chain Management — a key deliverable of the CHAIN Project under the EU Erasmus+ Programme.
Under the theme “Agri-Food Value Chain Management in Nigeria: Pathway to Resilient Food Systems and Sustainable Development,” the event brought together researchers, industry experts, policymakers, civil society representatives, and practitioners committed to shaping a stronger and more competitive agri-food sector.
Opening remarks by Prof. Robert Onyeneke, Dean of Agriculture and CHAIN Coordinator at AE-FUNAI, highlighted the importance of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation for transforming Nigeria’s food systems.
Keynote speaker Prof. Saweda Onipede Liverpool-Tasie (Michigan State University) discussed the rapid evolution of agri-food value chains driven by MSME investments, while Prof. Eric Eboh shared insights from value-chain modelling and market-oriented experimentation in Delta State.
The conference also received goodwill contributions and strong attendance from national institutions, sector leaders, and government representatives — reflecting the high relevance of agri-food transformation across Nigeria.
📣 The event was covered by national Nigerian newspapers, radio, and television, underscoring its impact and visibility.
A heartfelt well done to the AE-FUNAI team for hosting and to FUTMINNA for their collaboration. Together, they delivered an important milestone for the CHAIN Project and for Nigeria’s journey toward more resilient, innovative, and sustainable food systems.
